Installed renewable capacity, 2016–2025
Ethiopia's renewable generating capacity rose from 5,989 MW at end-2024 to 10,082 MW at end-2025, an increase of 4,093 MW driven mainly by the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Hydropower accounts for 91.4% of the total.

Electricity balance, 2014–2024
In 2024, Ethiopia generated 20,596 GWh, of which 14,043 GWh reached final consumers, 1,671 GWh was exported and 4,819 GWh was lost in conversion and distribution. Hydropower supplied 96.5% of generation.
